RECOVERY FROM HIP REPLACEMENT OPERATION 2

RECOVERY FROM HIP REPLACEMENT - SECOND HIP REPLACEMENT DIARY - DAY 4 ONWARDS

DAY 4  - NO MORPHINE AND SHORT HOSPITAL STAY = HAPPIER PATIENT
The key thing to note here is how much better I felt/looked/was after a shorter, no-morphine stay in Hospital. Managed to get in 4 conversations on the 150m walk to the phone box and felt I could have walked further. Watched telly and fell asleep. Had to visit the loo a lot in the night - same as last time. Didn't sleep well.

DAY 5 - BACK INTO THE ROUTINE ON DAY 1......
Got up with the kids at 7.30 and made them breakfast, then watched cricket (Eng v Pakistan). Went back to bed, had lunch, walked about 1/3 mile to bus stop and back in beautiful, cold, clear weather. Slept poorly again. Still had snoring problems - Gill's, not mine!

DAY 6 - DON'T FIGHT DESIRE TO SLEEP
I try to fight the daytime sleep, but it's not worth it - your body is telling you to sleep - so sleep! So I slept! Watched MOTD and slept average.....leg getting that feeling of wanting to stretch out and some pain at top of thigh.

DAY 7 - IT'S A BAD ONE!!!
Tired - got up at 8 and went back to bed. Bad dreams - dreamt that I was on a rock climb, hanging onto sloping holds on the edge of an overhang, with no footholds above a yawning void. Rich was above me trying to get a rope to me....wierd. Walked to footpath to river - a good half mile all told - quite happy with that. Felt a bit sore, but good. Can stand in kitchen and prepare food. Later in day more discomfort and swelling spreading down leg in to foot, and a bit of numbness. Bad arguements this evening - Luke horribly grumpy and shouts all the time, Gill views me as an unfortunate inconvenience, leg uncomfortable, foot swollen and numb, tired and generally in a bad mood! Not a great deal to commend today!

DAY 8 - IMPROVEMENTS / DETERIORATION - NOT SURE WHICH ONE WINS OUT
BAD sleep last night. Still going to the loo a lot. Stopped taking Diclofecan which I am convinced causes bad moods and moved onto Ibuprofen. Felt good enough to make breakfast but had to lay down later due to discomfort and swelling. Can sit on dining chair OK, (was day 15 last time). Swelling exactly same timing as first op.

DAY 9 - SLEEPING STILL BAD
Highlight of day - sitting outside in the sun for 10 minutes! Leg still swollen down to foot, dull ache in leg and generally feeling tired.Walked to Cemetery and back - didn't feel good but didn't feel ready for that yet!! Just taking 2 Ibuprofen.

DAY 10 - IMPROVEMENT DAY
Slept better. Stiff and some swelling but this reduced overnight. Able to weight bear more and walked past Cemetery half way to cattle grid. That felt good for Day 10. I can sit on chairs and bend past a right angle. Started to walk alternate legs upstairs, always leg up, then other one joins and then moves through in separate action to next step.Later in the day felt tired and a bit low.

DAY 11 - A BELOW PAR DAY - OR PERHAPS IT SHOULD BE ABOVE PAR - AFTER ALL IF YOU SCORE  BELOW PAR YOU ARE DOING WELL IF UNDERSTAND GOLF CORRECTLY??
Anyway today, had it been golf, would have been about 20 shots over. Freezing rain brought most of Cumbria to a slidestill - with hundreds of accidents.

day 4
