GREENLAND

EXPEDITION TO GREENLAND 2013

Southern Greenland is simply stunning and this is where our Greenland Expedition for 2013 will go. For the walker, climber and scrambler or explorer, it's somewhat difficult to know where to start!

Based on my previous visit to this area, our expedition for 2013 will be centred on the village of Nanortalik, and will offer the opportunity to walk and climb on nearby Sermersoq Island, visit some of the wonderful sights around Nanortalik, and experience the vast wilderness of Tasermuit Fiord.

Nanortalik Harbour

We'll fly to Narsasuaq, home of the Allied Air Forces base from WW2, then take a spectacular helicopter ride along the coast to Nanortalik. Local transport will then be predominantly by boat. Sermersoq Island has many Alpine like peaks and fantastic wilderness walking. Nanortalik is a busy Innuit village with a famous and very beautiful church and wooden houses typical of the Norweigan coastline. Close by are the remains of ancient Viking Settlements and some hot springs, along with some excellent walks. Tasermuit Fiord is about 60km long, and contains the only 'forest' in Greenland, whilst the bulk of the upper part of the Fiord is lined by some of the most spectacular mountains in the world - Kirkenspiren, Kjetil and so on - it is a stunning landscape.
