WILD WALKS

GUIDED WALKING HOLIDAYS - WILD WALKS IN NORTH WEST SCOTLAND

North West Scotland has the finest wild walks in Britain, among some of the best scenery in Europe. Travelling north from Ullapool, the superb mountains of Assynt give way to the spectacularly isolated summits of Suilven, Quinag and further north Foinavon and Arkle. It's not just the high mountains which offer fantastic walking - some of the coastal walks are equally stunning.

Our wild walks for groups programme offers tailor made guided walks designed for your group, and can be arranged with or without accommodation. The experience offered in this area is quite unique, and works well for walkers wanting a true wilderness experience, and for business clients wanting to experience something truly 'away from it all'.

Although the whole experience of being in this part of the world is very special, the walks themselves form the centrepiece. Here are a few of my personal favourites:

STAC POLLAIDH: Small, but perfectly formed and ideal for a short day. Like a mini-Matterhorn when viewed from the side, the summit ridge has some pleasant, easy scrambling and the views are typically wonderful.
THE FIDDLER & BEN MOR COIGACH: Starting from the coastline at Achiltibuie, the ascent to The Fiddler gives no clue as to the rewards in store. On reaching the summit you will be knocked out by the view to the north, and once we make the climb to Ben Mor Coigach and we start to make our way along the ridge towards the sea, you'll be speechless! It's magnificent.
SUILVEN: A stunningly shaped mountain, though not the highest, perhaps the best mountain in Britain. The walk-in is long and arduous, and the climb to the summit ridge is steep, but the top is sublime.
SANDWOOD BAY: There are several amazing beaches in NW Scotland, and Sandwood Bay is one of the most remote. Although the walk out is gentle and relatively uninspiring, the bay itself is wonderful, and a great place to explore for an hour or two. The walk back takes in the clifftop path, and has excellent views out to the sea stack Am Buchaille, and visits some delightful remote bays.

GETTING THERE: Flying, or train to Inverness is the normal way for most people to acccess the NW coast - the drive from Cumbria takes about 6-7 hours. From Inverness we can arrange transport for you if required, with a transfer time from the airport of around 2 hours through some delightful scenery.

ACCOMMODATION: You are more than welcome to arrange your own ccommodation, or we can do this for you. The numbers of Hotels and B&Bs is limited, so booking well ahead is advisable. There are also some excellent self-catering options in old hunting lodges.

GUIDES: All our guides are qualified mountain leaders with expert local knowledge.
