LAKE DISTRICT MOUNTAIN WALKING
Lakes Challenge provide guides for mountain walks, and guided walks in the Lake District, Scotland and North Wales. The Lake District is the most popular location for mountain walking in Britain and it's no wonder that millions of visitors come here each year to walk the mountains, or 'Fells' as they are known locally. (This is nothing to do with falling! The word comes from the Norse- Fjell and is a legacy of the Vikings who settled here)
The Lake District is stunningly beautiful and we have a huge range of walks lasting from half a day upwards. Our walks provide healthy exercise and are led at a pace which takes everyone into account - you won't be rushed - we want you to really enjoy the experience. Our walks are livened up with stories and local anecdotes, or you may be shown some of the area's fascinating wildlife - insectivorous plants, mountain birds such as the Peregrine Falcon, and Red Deer. Above all, we want you to have a memorable experience.
Your group might have a particular objective in mind - England's highest summit, Scafell Pike for example, or an ascent of scrambles such as Sharp Edge or Striding Edge - whatever your objective, we can supply the expertise to make it happen.
All our guides have a minimum qualification level of the Mountain Leader Award, and many are members or former members of mountain rescue teams. We pride ourselves on providing walking guides who know the mountain environment really well, and who are entertaining and safe walking partners who will help you to get the best out of your guided walk.
We are also more than happy to discuss routes with you and to offer practical advice on any aspect of the walk.
