GORGE SCRAMBLING

Lake District Gorge ScramblingGORGE SCRAMBLING IN THE LAKE DISTRICT

Gorge Scrambling, or Ghyll Scrambling as it is sometimes known, started here in the Lake District, and involves ascending the bed of one of the many streams which tumble down the steep fellsides. It's a great activity for groups. The routes might involve traversing around deep pools, scrambling up waterfalls and sliding down waterslides, negotiating pools of crystal clear water or helping your colleagues across fast flowing rapids. Each day in one of the gorges is different, due to the variable amounts of water flowing. An easy section one day can be extremely difficult on another, and our expert instructors use their vast experience and knowledge to select the best route for your group on the day.

Gorge Scrambling is also one of the best activities for team building. It's a lot of fun, but equally importantly it's very important for the participants to help each other. This is in terms of advice and help to spot hazards, perhaps to pass on details of a hidden step or way of making the going easier. It's also in terms of direct physical help - holding someone's arm for balance, linking arms for stability - this sort of direct physical help is great for breaking down barriers and getting your team to really get to grips with helping each other.

All steeper or more hazardous steps are protected by ropes, and instructors ensure you take the right route and are aware of hazards.

Gorge Scrambling is a half day activity, and can be done at most times of year outside the colder winter days when there is any snow or ice about.

All specialist equipment is provided and participants just need waterproofs, warm clothes and walking boots.
