ARCHERY
Longbow archery for groups - a fantastic challenge open to groups of all types.
This is no ordinary Archery session, it's a true challenge, testing you in three separate disciplines, including the amazing Laporte flying disc challenge!
First, we'll teach you how to use the equipment - you'll be issued with a bow of appropriate draw weight (pull), arrows to match, an arm guard (bracer) and a finger glove to wear on the hand which pulls the bowstring back. Whilst the longbow archers of the past spent many years developing the skills and strength required to use their bows as weapons - you'll be able to learn the basics very quickly, and start to the hit the targets virtually straight away.
Our Archery Challenge has different components. After learning to shoot arrows safely and with a degree of accuracy, you'll firstly face the Short Range Target challenge. Everyone will score points here, shooting at the traditional circular targets. There's always a big cheer for anyone who hits the Gold centre of the target!
Secondly, you can try the Laporte Flying Disc Challenge. It's like Clay Pigeon Shooting but with bows instead of guns. The large orange discs are not easy to hit, but it's addictive, and you'll soon learn how to do it. It's brilliant when you hit one!
Thirdly, you will try your hand at Clout Archery. The target is placed on the ground at a distance of between 60 and 150 yards, and the archers shoot their arrown skywards, trying to get them to rain down on the target. This is how the medieval longbowmen trained - it's a lot of fun and you'll be surprised at how accurate you can become. We're currently working on making a small army of French Knights for you to aim at for added realism!!
Archery is suitable for all ages and all fitness levels, and can be undertaken as part of a multi-active day or as an activity in it's own right.
