ORIENTEERING PDF Print E-mail
Orienteering, or 'cunning running', as it's devotees sometimes call it is great fun, and excercises the mind as well as the body. Add to that the beautiful locations such as Grizedale and Whinlatter Forests in the Lake District and it's clear as to why it is becoming an increasingly popular group activity.

Our highly experienced instructors will give you a good briefing and some tuition in the most important aspects of orienteering before you depart. You'll learn the basics of reading a map, working out distances and taking a compass bearing.

Once you've had a briefing, you'll be given a map on which are shown a number of markers. The task sounds straightforward enough - visit as many markers as possible in the time allowed. Carefull planning though is required if you are to make best use of your time - a good strategy is important.

Groups are normally split into pairs or small teams and the winners are the ones who visit most markers in the time allowed.
