Not everyone wants a really tough day out, and our Moderate category walks provide an ideal opportunity for people who are not regular mountain walkers to enjoy fell walking at an achievable level.

One of the most underrated aspects of lower and mid level walks is that the views are often better than those from the highest peaks. At mid level, you can look down into the valleys and up to the higher summits, which gives a really delightful perspective.
The Lake District has many low and mid-level fells which give walking and views every bit as good as their higher counterparts, but with a little less effort required to get there. Moderate category walks can also take in more lakeshore tracks and woodland, which both present a very different perspective on the landscape.

One of the main differences between the Moderate walks and the tougher Challenging walks is not the distance covered, but the type of terrain on which the walk takes place. Paths tend to be less rocky and loose, gentler in angle and (sometimes!) drier.
The height gain and descent also tends to be less than on the Challenging walks.
Having said all that, there is still room on Moderate walks for a bit of adventure, and at the end of the day's walking you'll still feel like you've done enough to deserve that meal and pint!

All our walks are led by qualified Mountain Leaders who know the area well and provide good companions for the day.
